Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Spirer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ruth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for weddings started at a very young age. I grew up In Israel and as a young child, my parents used to take me with them to all their friends and relatives’ weddings. In Israel, it is common to invite families with their children to weddings, so I have attended many weddings as a young girl. I remember that I LOVED everything about weddings; the overall atmosphere, the food, the music and especially just watching the beautiful bride on her wedding day surrounded by family and friends. I loved standing close to the stage where the live band performed and loved dancing with all the guests.

Fast forward, years later I have decided to follow another passion I had and I studied hospitality with the goal of working in a hotel. I have worked for a few local and international hotels in Israel and held positions from front desk agent all the way to sales & marketing and eventually landed on a catering position. When an opportunity came up for my husband to start a US branch of the software company he worked for at the time, our family moved from Israel to Dallas, Texas in summer of 1996. After some job search, I accepted the position of Social Catering Sales Manager at one of the Dallas hotels and worked there for 5 years.

Out of all the various social events I have planned and coordinated at the hotel, I fell in love with WEDDINGS and when clients started bringing their own wedding planners, I knew this is going to be my next career. I then quit my job at the hotel, took a wedding planner certification class and launched my own company Weddings and Events by Ruth in 2004.

I am excited to have built a career on something that I like to do so much. Weddings and Events by Ruth is a boutique wedding and event planning company and we focus on a very personable and high-level customer service. We specialize in Jewish, Multi-Cultural and Inter-Faith weddings and also like to plan other milestone celebrations.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe it is never a smooth road when you start something new. It is challenging for sure. It took me a lot of time, dedication and endless efforts to build a name and reputation.

For me personally, the hardest thing at the beginning was transitioning from working for a corporation and representing a hotel to owning my business and basically wearing a few hats in representing myself. With a lot of networking and the guidance and support of business coaches along the way, I slowly overcame this obstacle and continued building my brand and company.

Weddings and Events by Ruth is a boutique event production company. We primarily plan and coordinate weddings, and we also plan milestone celebrations, such as adults birthdays, anniversaries, engagement parties, retirement parties and more. We specialize in planning Jewish, Inter-Faith and Multi-Cultural weddings.

We are known for our friendly demeanor, attention to details, logistics expertise, and most of all our flexibility and personal service we offer to our clients.

Our goal is to provide our clients such a service where they feel they are our only clients. After months of working together with our couples and their families, many times we become a new friend and part of the family, as many of our clients will say. I believe this is what sets us apart.

What were you like growing up?
I am a “people” person. I LOVE people and I have always liked to be surrounded by friends. I also LOVE music, dancing and parties, so this is no wonder I have chosen the career of an event planner.
